August 16: Dr. Martin models new custom-designed FUBU Cap and Gown set and hoods his 4th and 5th docotoral student from the only graduate African American Literature Program in the United States, Univ. Memphis Graduation, FedEx Forum, Memphis, TN. Nationally televised live as book promotion on the Turner South Network.

August 25: Presentation: "Standardized Testing Tips for Teachers." East Middle School. Fayette County, TN. EMS teachers only.

GENRES: All kinds of writing welcomed. No more than 30 pages work-shopped from each writer; sorry, manuscripts cannot be returned;

GOALS: To write at publishable standards, to learn the market, and to mail out our submissions

DEADLINES: Samples for consideration (no more than 10 pages) may also be e-mailed to Dr. Martin at rmartin100@comcast.net, same deadlines. Please include name and phone numbers with all submissions. Dr. Martin will quickly review all manuscripts and call with acceptances/denials.

Policy on Speaking Engagements

I regret that I can no longer accept invitations to speak locally, not even for those that pay.

For engagements external to the Memphis metropolitan area, I can accept those only along the Amtrak line as I will no longer use airports. My preference is to speak and do workshops only between Memphis and New Orleans, but the Amtrak line does head back up the east coast after going through Atlanta, and back north toward Chicago from Memphis, and if you or your organization can wait for me to get there via rail, that is a possibility to which I am open. Nor do I mind a reasonable drive from an Amtrak stop; for example, I would not mind driving an hour from the Jackson, Mississippi stop to someplace where I am wanted. It is highly unlikely I would drive for over an hour to anywhere in the world.

I am also EXTREMELY open to all web-based presentations or satellite presentations.
